Michael Season’s “Feel Good Snacking” Review (& Giveaway Ends 8/9)

ABOUT:
After trying out organic farming, Michael Season developed one of the largest natural food distributorships in the U.S. He quickly realized there was a market for healthy, additive-free foods so he created the Michael Season’s Thin & Crispy Potato Chips.  There are six delicious flavors of Thin & Crispy Potato Chips available:  Lightly Salted, Ripple, Unsalted, Honey Barbecue, Salt & Pepper, and Mediterranean.
Michael Season’s also produces Baked Potato Chips, Puffs & Curls, and Baked Multigrain Chips.  (Read my review here of the other flavors I tried out last year.)  All the Michael Season’s products are especially great for people with allergies because of all their great benefits!
Features:
No trans fat
No preservatives
No artificial colors or flavors
Wheat and Gluten free
All natural ingredients
No hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils
No MSG
MY THOUGHTS:
The newest flavor of Michael Season’s Thin & Crispy potato chips is Mediterranean and after I got the chance to try them, I can definitely say Michael Season’s has done it again!  As I was sampling them I realized I had eaten a good portion of the bag already!  They are awesome!  They are a little thicker than regular chips, which I like because they don’t break as easily, but they are not hard at all.  Basically these chips melt in your mouth, especially while you are savoring the seasonings on the chips!  I can’t describe the taste, as it is light but definitely flavorful.  Not spicy or plain, but rich in flavor.  I especially love that they are healthier than what I would probably be normally snacking on!  Even though this chips are all-natural and don’t contain all the fat and preservatives other brands do, they are delicious and a great replacement for healthier snacking!
Just to show too how popular Michael Season’s chips are, they were even featured as on the Rachel Ray show as “Snack of the Day” this past May!  Oh and did I mention they are affordable too – at about $3 a bag!  Looking for 100 calorie packs – they have those too!
Michael Season’s captures the flavors of the Mediterranean!  We start with select potatoes and add a combination of garlic, onion, oregano, rosemary & basil.  Take pleasure in our all natural potato chips!
BUY IT: You can buy Michael Season’s online or find them at most health & natural food stores including:  Whole Foods, Kroger, Safeway, Roundy’s, Publix or Amazon!
GIVEAWAY:  (1) winner will receive a Michael Season’s tote filled with chips!
WIN IT:  Comment on which Michael Season’s flavor you’d like you to first!

Adoramapix custom photo book GIVEAWAY!

I am a photo fanatic. I ALWAYS have my camera on me, and depending on the occasion, it isn't unheard of for me to take 200-300 pictures. With all of these pictures, I have tried many different sites for my photo books. So I was super excited to be able to try out Adoramapix. It was amazing! What stood out to me the most was that even with the custom themes, you can change anything on any page! I was actually surprised when I got my book. I knew the paper was going to be different, but it truly looks significantly different from the regular photo books. It looks so professional, and it also looks like it cost a lot more than it does to make. I was very impressed.

iTunes App Review: My Living Stories (& $25 iTunes Gift Card Giveaway US/CAN Ends 8/6) #MyLivingStories

ABOUT:
My Living Stories apps combine beautiful artwork, narration and interactive features in an easy to use platform that is perfect for preschoolers to read along all on their own, without any help.  My Living Stories are a great solution for entertaining on-the-go or as an aid for teaching children to read at home. The apps allow for your child to read along with English narration or read the stories themselves.  Interactive sounds and animation bring stories to life.  Another great feature is the ability to record your own voice to go along with the story (this feature requires an iPhone or iPod Touch with microphone capabilities).
My Living Story classic stories include:
Princess & the Pea
King Midas
The Tortoise & the Hare,
Little Red Riding Hood
Goldilocks and the Three Bears

MY THOUGHTS:
Okay so I am no stranger to iPhone Apps as my husband has an iPhone and I have an iPod Touch.  I honestly cannot imagine not having them now, how did I survive without this little touch screen device before?  I mainly check my email, Facebook and play a few games, but the big reason I have it is for my sanity.  Yes I am a mom who lets her child play with her iPod Touch, yes it stops tantrums, keeps him quiet, and now educates him!  In the beginning he watched videos and tapped around, but now there are so many apps out there that really are helpful for children.
I started out just downloading every app I could find for my son, but now I admit I am a little bit more selective as I want there to be some type of educational aspect to the app.  I still have some cheesy games on it (Spongebob) but I like the apps where he has to match items, letters, shapes, work on puzzles, and anything else that makes him think.  I think it is especially important in the summertime as kids can forget a lot and with Apps at least they are having fun and learning at the same time!
Lately, my son has really started to like books.  He still only likes me to read to him before bed, but on the iPod he loves to look and listen to book Apps.  I was excited when I got the chance to review a few of the My Living Stories interactive stories as they feature both new stories and classics I grew up with!  These Apps are adorable books that have come to life.  They are super easy for kids to navigate and I really love that there is an arrow in the corner to flip the page as my 2 year old hasn’t quite grasped the page turning but can tap the arrow to go forward.  The stories are bright, colorful, and within each page is a spot you can touch where something will make a sound or move.  It is especially cute because we have read Tortoise and the Hare at home and now my sons can read it on the go without dragging books with.  It is super nice to have a good selection of books at the touch of my fingertips!  We haven’t yet recorded a story with our own voices yet, but I can’t wait to try that on my husbands iPhone as I think my sons will really get a kick out of it!  This would also be perfect for a grandparent or other loved one to record so your child can hear their voice anytime.
BUY IT: Check out all the My Living Stories available!
GIVEAWAY: (1) winner will receive a $25 iTunes gift card!
WIN IT:  Leave a comment on which My Living Stories story you would check out first for the child in your life! (See list above)

CD Review: ‘Dark Hope’ by Renee Fleming (& Giveaway Ends 8/4)

Dark Hope

Released:  June 8, 2010
ABOUT:
Renée Fleming’s new album ‘Dark Hope’, which the opera star describes as a “visit to a new, parallel universe,” will be released by Decca this spring. The album was recorded in close collaboration with producer David Kahne (Regina Spektor, The Strokes, The Bangles, Sublime, and countless others) in New York City, and features a diverse and adventurous track listing of songs.
Song List:
Endlessly (Muse)
No One’s Gonna Love You (Band of Horses)
Oxygen (Willy Mason)
Today (Jefferson Airplane)
Intervention (Arcade Fire)
With Twilight As My Guide (The Mars Volta)
Mad World (Tears for Fears)
In Your Eyes (Peter Gabriel)
Stepping Stone (Duffy)
Soul Meets Body (Death Cab For Cutie)
Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)
Fleming, the superstar soprano known as “the people’s diva,” says of ‘Dark Hope’: “I’ve always been inspired by artists who have shown musical and intellectual curiosity and the courage to take risks. Because everything about the voice interests me, I felt it would be fascinating to learn a completely different style of singing.”
Producer Kahne was a true collaborator during the recording process, driving most of the arrangements and coaching Fleming in this music. Also joining Fleming on the album are her two daughters and sister, who sing backup on several songs.
Fleming says that for the recording of this album, “Singing in a small, acoustic booth, with a microphone that’s very close, in this very intimate style, is the complete opposite of how I usually sing.”
There were similarities to how she prepares dramatically for an opera role, however. Fleming points out that for each track on ‘Dark Hope’ “we found an interpretation that enabled the point of view to sound authentic coming from me. Every song has a story, so this whole idea of enacting or playing a role is doubly true for this music.”
MY THOUGHTS:
I admit I never heard of Renee Fleming before, but then that is probably because she is originally an Opera singer, she even sang at President Obama’s presidential inauguration.  So I didn’t know what to expect from her singing, especially after reading her track listing.  I was curious especially to hear her version of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” as that is one of my favorite songs.  I will say her singing voice is deeper than I expected, but it is not a bad thing. I have read that this CD is “indie” but I am not sure how I would classify it.  I found I like listening to Renee Fleming when I am sitting at the computer or relaxing.  He voice is soothing in a deep and different way.  I think her singing popular songs is a good choice for this up and coming album because people already know the songs she is singing and like them.  I also think it is neat that her daughters are back up singers on some songs!
BUY IT: You can buy the “Dark Hope” CD by Renee Fleming wherever CDs are sold or find it on Amazonfor $12.99.  You can also preview the songs on Amazon!
GIVEAWAY:  (1) winner will receive the “Dark Hope” CD by Renee Fleming
